WHAT TO EXPECT: Lunch & Learn: "Emotional Intelligence: Driving Your Leadership Potential," presented by Dr. Dana Hart
The knowledge, skills, and abilities that we know as Emotional Intelligence (EI) have changed our definition of what it means to be smart. While IQ and technical competence will always define who is capable of assuming a given role, such competencies rarely, if ever, predict who will emerge as a star performer or great leader. Emotional intelligence—your ability to recognize and understand your emotions—has been shown to predict work performance across a range of occupations and becomes more predictive of performance in leadership. With that being said, emotional intelligence has become the new metric by which employees and leaders are measured. This lunch and learn will introduce you to EI skills and concepts, as well as demonstrate how using these competencies can shape your approach to effective leadership.
Dr. Dana Hart is the director of the Flores MBA Program at Louisiana State University. He is an instructor of leadership development in the E. J. Ourso College of Business and an instructor of higher education economics and finance in the College of Human Sciences and Education at LSU. Originally from Boston, Mass., he has extensive experience in higher education management at LSU, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
